Joël Tettamanti (*1977) is one of Switzerland’s most celebrated young photographers. Educated at the Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne, Tettamanti has shown his work in galleries in cities around the world, including New York, London, Paris, Zürich, and São Paulo, and has published his photographs in renowned magazines such as Wallpaper, Icon, Domus, and Vogue.

In 2007, Tettamanti was commissioned to produce a series of photographs of Davos, one of the most beautiful and exclusive skiing resorts in the world and the site of the annual World Economic Forum’s summit of global leaders. This volume assembles many of these photographs together with several previously unpublished images, offering a unique viewpoint of the mountain city and revealing its empty valleys and underlying infrastructure. As the accompanying essay by publisher and curator Walter Keller explains, Tettamanti’s work presents the resort as an open-ended location whose meanings are not—despite its fame—in any way predetermined. Instead, Tettamanti asks the viewer to experience the city in its totality, paying attention to the landscape, climate, people, dreams, and debris alike.

Praise

“Deserted streets, verdant meadows, Modernist nooks, occluded snowscapes; Davos sparkles strangely under the gaze of Tettmanti’s lens, which is pointed a million miles away from the busy-ness of the World Economic Forum and the ski season.” Monocle

“The photo book’s representation of the everyday side of Davos is an interesting contribution to the concept of landscape photography, and Tettamanti has succeeded in creating a series of relevant photographs.” KATALOG Journal of photography & video

“Joël Tettamanti possesses an opulent talent for creating these spectacular images that border on fantasy mixed with reality.” www.electronicbeats.net
